Lexington Three Teacher of the Year Attends Conference, Prepares for State Competition

Lexington County School District Three Teacher of the Year Allison Cook recently attended the South Carolina Teacher Forum Conference in Myrtle Beach.  The conference, which was sponsored by CERRA (Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement), was held at the DoubleTree Hilton Resort November 6th through the 8th.  The goal of the “Adventure Awaits” conference was to recognize and honor the state’s district Teachers of the Year, give them an opportunity to network with each other and provide them with professional development seminars related to teacher leadership.

Mrs. Cook was one of 88 district Teachers of the Year who attended the event. While there, she participated in general sessions and workshops on topics such as teacher advocacy, teacher leadership, and mindfulness in the sphere of education. The conference wrapped up with a message from state Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and a Teacher Leader Pinning Ceremony.

Most recently, Mrs. Cook has also worked to prepare and submit a lengthy, detailed application for the 2021 South Carolina Teacher of the Year contest.  The application, which included nine sections, was due on January 2nd. The new state Teacher of the Year will be announced on May 5, 2020 at a celebration in Columbia.
