Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School was recently awarded $18,000 from the SC Department of Education.
The Distinguished Arts Program Grant (called “Stepping Up the Arts Academic Programs”) was written by teacher Karen Wheeler in an effort to improve the arts experience for students at BLES.
The money will be used in a variety of ways, including:
--Arts teachers will attend Summer Institutes supported by the SDE, allowing for additional professional development opportunities;
--Providing for dance residencies at the school;
--A Main Stage Performance by the Columbia Children’s Theater at the Fine Arts Center;
--The purchase of additional instruments for the music department;
--The purchase of equipment to assist the PE department in the dance residencies;
--The purchase of movie-making equipment needed in the visual arts department.
