Four staff members from Lexington County School District Three participated in the Lake Murray Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 13th at the TOPSPIN Racquet & Swim Club in Lexington. The Lake Murray Polar Plunge is an annual event that helps to raise funds for the Special Olympics of South Carolina.
Lexington Three's team from B-L Middle School consisted of teachers Jennifer Connelly, Heather Eargle and Tracey Hermsdorf-Yetter. Together, they fundraised nearly $1,000 for the South Carolina Special Olympics. Teacher Stephanie Shealy represented B-L Elementary School in the event and fundraised more than $400 for the Special Olympics.
The mission of the South Carolina Special Olympics "is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community," according to their website (www.http://so-sc.org/).
A special thanks goes out to all who contributed to Lexington Three's fundraising efforts.
