Information for Parents and Students
Valuing instructional time, the eLearning pilot allows Lexington School District Three to extend learning into the home and keep everyone safe during inclement weather. The goal is to keep students learning, even when the weather is inevitable. An eLearning day is very similar to a normal school day.
How will my students get the eLearning assignments that they need to complete at home?
Teachers will have eLessons for your student loaded in the Google Classroom, our learning dashboard for students. Prior to leaving the school building before an eLearning day, students will receive the necessary resources to complete their work at home.
Students in grades 1-12 will be able to use Google Docs (create and edit documents), Google Sheets (create and edit spreadsheets), Google Slides (create and edit presentations), and Google Drawings (create and edit diagrams) offline. There will be some lessons that will have videos or other media. Teachers will work with the students to have this information downloaded to their Chromebook prior to leaving school before an eLearning day. If students do not have the Internet, they can still complete the eLesson(s) and sync their work when they return to school.
K4 and K5 students will have paper assignments and resources sent home with them prior to the eLearning day.
How can we work with the teacher?
Teachers will be available throughout the day via virtual office hours.
Primary & Elementary Office Hours: 8:30-10:00 am AND 1:00-2:30 pm
Middle & High Office Hours: 10:00 am - 11:30 am AND 2:30-4:00 pm
During these hours, our teachers will be accessible through various lines of communication such as: Google classroom, Seesaw, and Remind. Your student’s teacher will inform you as to what form of communication they will be using.
What is my student’s responsibility? How long do the students have to make up the eLesson(s) assigned on intermittent weather days?
Students are expected to complete the eLesson(s) assigned by their teachers. eLearning days are about extending learning outside of the school building and not stopping instruction.
Students have THREE school days to complete their make up work The THREE days will begin on the day students return to school. (Ex: Students return on Monday. The eLesson(s) will be due that Wednesday.)
Students who do not complete the eLesson(s) on the intermittent weather day(s) or within the three school day makeup window will be marked absent.
Will there be Technical Support on eLearning Days?
The Information Technology Services Department will be working to provide technical support to all staff, students, and parents of Lexington School District 3 on any future eLearning Day. Please see the information below for information and answers to common questions.
How do I reach eLearning Technical Support?
You can reach the support team by calling: 803-532-1780
*only active on eLearning Days
What kinds of problems will Technical Support be able to assist me with?
We will do our best to provide support on any issues related to the use of District Three technology to complete eLearning assignments. We will be limited in our ability to provide support on home wireless networks due to the wide range of potential problems that could arise during a weather event. Lesson and instructional concerns should be directed to the appropriate teacher during announced office hours.
When will Technical Support be available?
Support personnel will be available to take your call between the hours of 8 am and 3:45 pm on eLearning days. Due to the expected call volume - if you receive a busy signal, or are unable to reach someone, please be sure to continue to try to make contact.
