Notification of Positive COVID-19 Cases

Lexington County School District Three wants to ensure that our parents, guardians, staff and students understand exactly how COVID-19 cases will be handled in our district.

What to expect if a student or staff member is suspected to have COVID-19:

--Staff member/student will be interviewed and assessed by a school nurse.
--Staff member/student will be monitored in an isolation room at the school until he/she can go home. Parents/guardians will be contacted and urged to pick up their child immediately.
--Staff member/student will be contacted by the school nurse with guidance from DHEC regarding referral for testing, exclusion criteria, isolation and when he/she can return to school.

What to expect if a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19:

--A Lexington Three nurse will report the case to DHEC within 24 hours of diagnosis.
--The student or staff member will be excluded from school for at least 10 days and directed to isolate.
--The school nurse and administration will begin contact tracing immediately. Once contact tracing is complete, there will be three types of notification:

1. Close Contact Notification

a) Anyone determined to have been in “close contact” with the COVID-19 positive individual during the time he/she was contagious must be excluded from school for 14 days. Close contact is defined as being within 6-feet of a COVID-positive individual for more than 15 minutes (cumulative, with or without a mask), living in the same house with a COVID-positive individual, caring for someone who is recovering from COVID-19 or being in direct contact with respiratory droplets from someone who is COVID-19 positive.

b) Those determined to be a “close contact” will be notified individually by the school nurse or principal and excluded from school for 14 days. Instructions will be given to self monitor and to seek testing if symptoms occur. In the case of a student being identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 positive individual, the child’s parent/guardian will also be notified.

2.  Not Close Contact Notification

a) All individuals who have been in a classroom or other area of the school with a COVID-19 positive individual (but outside of the 6-feet range) will be notified and given instructions to self monitor for 14 days for COVID symptoms. These individuals will NOT be automatically excluded from school.

3.  District-Wide Notification

a) In addition to the personal notifications listed above, Lexington Three will post the number of COVID-positive cases on the district website.

Lexington Three COVID-19 Report

The report below reflects the number of *new* positive COVID-19 diagnoses at each Lexington Three facility during the week of September 8th through September 11th.

The numbers listed are not cumulative and only represent the number of *new* positive COVID-19 cases reported during the specified period. This report does not mean that students or staff members contracted the virus while at school. Faculty and students come and go from our schools and are active in our community, meaning they could have come into contact with the virus outside of a school setting.
