On Thursday, September 11th, the familiar purple and gold of B-L High School’s competition gym transformed into a sea of red, white, and blue as B-L Elementary School students participated in a heartfelt September 11th Memorial Ceremony, hosted in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Education.
The program featured remarks from SC Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver, SC Teacher of the Year Corey Bedenbaugh, Lexington Three Superintendent Dr. Ashley Atkinson, and BLES Principal Matt Velasquez. Local first responders—including B-L Police Chief Darren Amick, B-L Fire Chief Josh Frye, Lexington County EMS Corporal Cali McKelvey, and Lexington County Sheriff’s Office Major Hampton Taylor—were recognized on stage and presented with handmade thank you cards crafted by BLES students.
Select fifth-grade students joined the BLES Honors Choir for a touching performance of American Voices and third-grade student Casey Rice, whose father serves with the B-L Fire Department, proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance. The ceremony was also attended by local dignitaries and elected officials, adding to the spirit of unity and remembrance.
This tribute honored the lives lost on September 11, 2001, serving as a powerful reminder of the patriotism and togetherness that defines our nation. ❤️🤍💙
Lexington Three will never forget.
