B-L Middle School Teachers Receive Bright Ideas Grant graphic

Two B-L Middle School teachers, Laura Bishop and Adena McCullough, received a special surprise on Tuesday, October 7th when a representative from Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative visited their classrooms to announce that they had been selected as recipients of a $1,000 Bright Ideas Grant.

The duo earned the grant for their innovative project titled “Turning Stories into Structures with 3-D Printing.” This creative initiative blends English Language Arts (ELA) and STEM instruction, offering students an engaging, hands-on learning experience that bridges storytelling and technology.

Through the project, students in Ms. McCullough’s ELA classes will explore, analyze, and write stories. Then, in Ms. Bishop’s STEM classes, they will bring those stories to life by designing and 3-D printing models that represent characters, settings, and key ideas from their narratives.

Bright Ideas is open to educators in kindergarten through 12th grades in Lexington County School Districts One, Two, Three and Five, and in the Saluda County School District.

Congratulations to Ms. Bishop and Ms. McCullough on this well-deserved recognition and for continuing to inspire students through creative, forward-thinking instruction!
