BLMS Earns School to Watch Redesignation graphic with picture

Congratulations to Batesburg-Leesville Middle School!

BLMS was officially presented on Friday, April 24th with its redesignation as a “School to Watch,” a prestigious recognition by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform. Out of schools across the state, only 42 middle schools in South Carolina hold this distinction for excellence in academics, developmental responsiveness, and social equity.

Students and staff gathered in the BLMS gym for a special assembly featuring Panther Ambassadors, Student Council members, and school administrators. A highlight of the celebration was Rebecca Burris presenting the official banner on behalf of the South Carolina Schools to Watch team.

Originally designated in 2020, BLMS successfully completed the rigorous redesignation process this past fall—something schools must do every three years. During the presentation, Ms. Burris praised the school’s welcoming atmosphere, strong parent partnerships, meaningful community connections, outstanding teachers, and hardworking students as key reasons for this continued honor.

We are incredibly proud of BLMS for this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations to our students, staff, and community!
