Panther Nation: Save the date of Thursday, January 30th so that you can attend our Open House events at B-L Primary and B-L High Schools! We want to show off all of our completed construction projects from the 2020 bond referendum and hope you can join us.

Our third graders from B-L Elementary School did a tremendous job last night in their production of "The Nutcracker Mini Musical." Songs such as "Nutcracker Overture," "The March," and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" were performed. Our students are so talented!

Over the past year, around 24 students at B-L Middle School have actively participated in the school garden, engaging in various tasks such as building raised beds, sheet composting, planting, watering, and harvesting. The students have successfully completed their first cycle of both cool- and warm-season crops. Their sweet potato plants thrived over the summer, producing an impressive yield of large sweet potatoes. They also grew yellow squash, bush beans, carrots, and beets, which were recently harvested. Currently, students are growing broccoli, which will continue to flourish throughout the cool season, along with newly-planted kale and onions. The school garden has become an excellent opportunity for students to develop teamwork, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. As they observe seeds sprouting, flowers blooming, and vegetables growing, they gain hands-on experience with factors affecting plant life—such as rain, drought, pollinators, and pests. One student, Colt Roundtree, even took the initiative to research and implement natural pest control solutions to manage cabbage worms and ants. This initiative is part of the Clemson Extension School Gardening Program. Great job students!

Just before our Thanksgiving break, members of our awesome Child Nutrition Department at each of our schools received visits from Dr. Scott Taylor and Isaac Pressley of USC's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The visit was a follow-up training from the week-long, hands-on training that took place at USC over the summer.

Exciting news from B-L Middle School! STEM teacher Laura Bishop was recently awarded a Google VEX Robotics grant, providing her students with an incredible opportunity to dive deeper into robotics and compete against other middle school teams across South Carolina. VEX Robotics is a dynamic platform that combines hands-on learning with the excitement of competition, helping students strengthen their STEM skills through building and programming robots. The BLMS Robotics Team is hard at work preparing for their first competition on December 7th. Let’s cheer them on and wish them the best of luck!

Lexington Three's schools wrapped up their Veterans Day celebrations last night with an outstanding performance by B-L Elementary School's fifth grade students and Honors Choir! The musical performance was held at the Fine Arts Center and also featured JROTC cadets from B-L High School and members of the B-L High School chorus. What a wonderful evening!

Students from B-L Primary and B-L Elementary Schools who participate in our mentoring program had a blast at their skating party on Tuesday! The event was held at Celebrations in Leesville. Students enjoyed skating, pizza, time with their mentees and even got to pick out books to take home for their personal library. Just look at all of those smiling faces!

On Wednesday, November 13th, our schools came together to celebrate World Kindness Day with meaningful activities across each campus. At Batesburg-Leesville Primary School, students created a “kindness chain.” Each student wrote down an act of kindness—whether it was something they did, received, or imagined—on colorful paper links. These links were used to create class chains which were then joined together to form a vibrant, school-wide “kindness chain” that will be displayed proudly in the cafeteria. Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School celebrated with "sprinkles of kindness." Students wrote down their acts of kindness on paper “sprinkles,” which were then added to giant paper cupcakes displayed at the end of each grade level's hallway. At Batesburg-Leesville Middle School, students created a confetti wall by writing down kind acts or quotes on colorful “confetti” pieces, which were then displayed on a central bulletin board to inspire others. Finally, at Batesburg-Leesville High School, two students were chosen at random for being spotted doing acts of kindness, celebrating the power of kindness in action. A special thanks goes out to our counseling departments for heading up these efforts in Lexington Three! Remember to always be kind!

Board of Trustees member Ty Bouknight was honored for his years of service during the Board's monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 12th. Having chosen not to seek re-election this year, Mr. Bouknight will be succeeded by Mrs. Cynthia Etheredge, who will assume the role in December. Since his election to the Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees in 2021, Mr. Bouknight has served with dedication and commitment. His unwavering focus on advancing education, supporting our schools, and advocating for our students and educators has made a lasting impact. We are most certainly grateful for his faithful service, leadership, and contributions to the growth and success of our district. Mr. Bouknight, pictured here with Superintendent Dr. Ashley Atkinson, was presented with a framed painting of Batesburg-Leesville, created by local artist Amanda Oswalt. We hope this piece will serve as a lasting reminder of his commitment to making the Batesburg-Leesville school district and community a better place for everyone.

This past Saturday, the B-L High School JROTC teamed up with VFW Post 6740 from Leesville to conduct a fundraiser for local veterans. JROTC members stood outside of local businesses including Wal-Mart, Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply, Starbucks, Western Auto and Shealy's Barbeque collecting monetary donations from 9 am until 4 pm and were able to fundraise $6,450! Great job students!

The Batesburg-Leesville High School Varsity football team is undefeated this season and has claimed the title of REGION CHAMPS!
